Hi everyone! This is just a little post to kick of the new year. Hooray! These are more or less just a few little lifestyle things that I'd like to change and incorporate in 2015. Mostly just want to spend my time learning, creating, and bettering myself. I would love to hear some of your goals or resolutions for 2015 so let me know below! Here are mine:

  • Be more mindful
  • Take more photos
  • Wake up earlier!
  • Hustle. Work hard.

  • Explore San Francisco (and California) more
  • Visit lots of museums, galleries, and exhibits
  • Pick up new hobbies
  • Dance more!

Pretty self-explanatory. Nothing too crazy — just a few small things to focus and improve on. Hope everyone is having a lovely 2015 so far!!

Q + A

Happy Monday! A few days ago I posted that I was going to be doing a q + a because of some questions I received via tumblr so here goes nothin'!

"You always have such perfect brownish-nude lips! What lipsticks do you use?"
Firstly, thanks! Nude has definitely been my thing lately. I have so many nude/browns but these are what I use most often: MAC Hug Me, MAC Modesty, MAC Viva Glam V Lipgloss, Dior Addict Lipstick in Tokyo, MAC Patisserie, NARS Pigalle. I also am a bit obsessed with nude liners. I think I might do a post on this, what do you guys think?

___

"Your hair looks amazing! What shampoo have you been using? Love your blog! Ignore the haters, you are doing great. :D"
Thank you! I've been using Alterna's Caviar Repair RX Instant Recovery Shampoo + the corresponding conditioner. I'm really liking it thus far!

___

"Hi, Chelsea! Which products do you use for a makeup in the day?"
Hiya! I've gotten into a little routine which I don't actually mind and it's something like:
___

"What do you do for workouts and stuff? You seem to be in great shape!!"
This is nice because I've seriously gotten off track, whoops. Anyway! I try to eat really healthy Mon-Fri and I work out most days for 30-60 minutes. I like to stick to weights, but I do go for runs every now and again. I walk a *lot* and just try to keep everything fairly balanced!
___

"1. Top 3 favorite MAC products? / 2. Favorite nail polish atm & all time favorite? / 3. Favorite TV shows? / 4. Did you like Charmed growing up? (I was obsessed :D) / 5. Do you like the movie "The Craft"? (Witchy teamed questions!) / 6. This weekly post sounds perfect to me! / 7. A more general question, but could you, when time allows you, post ootd's? I love your style so much and need inspiration! Ps: love the blog, everything you do and you so much! Thanks for doing this! <3"
Oh my god this question is so great. Seven questions in one, WOO.
1. All of their lipsticks, honestly. Hug Me, Patisserie, Dark Side, and Ruby Woo are especially great IMO.
2. My favorite nail polish right now is straight up black! My favorite nail polish is either Essie Wicked or OPI Samoan Sand!
3. This is a good one! I don't watch much TV but when I do: American Horror Story, Twin Peaks, Parks and Rec, Bob's Burgers, Law and Order: SVU, etc
4. I LOVED Charmed growing up. I wanted to be Piper + be with Leo.
5. The Craft is amazing. Cult films forever.
6. I'm so glad you like the weekly post! They're so fun for me to do!
7. I would love to get back into doing OOTDs honestly. I love fashion and even more than that I love personal style posts so I'll see what I can do!
Thanks so much for the lovely questions.
___

"What are the necessary makeup items you can not live without?"
All of 'em! Hahaha no but seriously: brow pencil, mascara, lipstick!

I'm thinking maybe next time I do a q+a I will make a video — what do you guys think? Seems like it'd be way easier than formatting a long post like this. Leave any questions you might have below or send them over here.

30 (more) random facts about me

It's been a year and six months since I did my last 30 things post. A lot has changed! I should probably just start and not babble, huh? Let's go. Oh and all these photos are from Snapchat, hahahah.
  • I've been pescatarian for over a year and a half now!!!!
  • I'm currently pursuing food photography which is basically my dream
  • On July 1st  I moved to Brooklyn
  • This year I took up ukulele and calligraphy — I like to play Free Bird and The Cranberries a lot
  • I have three new tattoos which makes a total of five. I want another!
  • I love being out! This is soooo funny since in my last post I said I was a homebody.  Hahahahah not anymore!
  • 25 is proving to be my best year yet
  • Some of my tracked tags on tumblr are: animal crossing, april ludgate, banana and peanut butter, interior design, lost in translation
  • I have a pretty morbid sense of humor. oops!
  • Snapchat and pastry addictions are very real for me
  • I think it's important to go through loss to find out things about yourself. I think a lot of people take others / things for granted and it's nice to be reminded that we're just all human
  • I blush a lot
  • If I wasn't pursuing photography, I'd be doing design
  • I'M HAPPY (this is great)
  • I've been on a cookie kick lately — my two current favorites are lavender sea salt and rosemary chocolate chip

  • I work out in some form most days (so I can eat said cookies)
  • Stevie Nicks is definitely a huge inspiration to me when it comes to fashion. Witchy vibes ONLY
  • I love having projects to work on. I think it's super important to always be learning and always be creating
  • This year I've met some of the most incredible people. Stupidly thankful always
  • I'm pretty confident in myself and how I feel about things — I always try to be intuitive and insightful
  • My bed sheets are white and my towels are pink
  • I spent my 25th birthday in Costa Rica and it was basically the best thing to happen to me so far this year
  • I could eat avocado toast all day every day
  • Often found wearing Nike shorts under my dresses
  • I love the skull emoji a lot and these are my recently used emojis
  • I am dating a total babe (hi babe)
  • Cookbooks are my favorite! I need them all
  • Autumn is my favorite season. Summer was great but I can't wait for it to be over
  • I love that 90's fashion is coming back. I think it's great — kind of makes me a bit nostalgic but mostly I just like brown-nude lipstick and platform / jelly sandals.
  • I know most, if not all the words to Clueless. No shame

And another 30 done and done. I feel like these are kind of boring, hahah! It's so hard to come up with things sometimes. I mean, it just feels silly sitting here talking about myself to the internet. Says the girl with the blog...

It is what it is, I suppose.

Have you guys done one of these before? Link me! I love learning about people. Anyway, be back soon with some real posts. Pretty excited about 'em!

2014 Astrology Calendar

If you don't know by now, you should probably know: I'm kind of obsessed with astrology. I say "kind of" but what I really mean is wow omg I'm so obsessed give me everything please okay thank you. I'm very unapologetic about it all too — I know some people think it's complete crap buuuut I'm not some people and I luv it. Gimme the constellations, gimme the moon, most of all give me my horoscope (and like 50 iOS horoscope apps). Thanks in advance.

This calendar is a thing of beauty. I'm quite thankful that a certain lovely person found this baby on tumblr and sent it my way; it's totally me. Each month isn't exactly a real month — no January 1-31 here. Instead, the months + days go by sign. Right now we're in Pisces, which goes from the end of February to the end of March. The whole concept is pretty adorable and I'm down with livin' my days by the star signs. To be fair, I kind of do already but now I'm on a whole nother level. Plus, helloooooo, the calendar itself is absolutely gorgeous. It's high quality prints on some high quality paper and easily worth the twenty bucks (+ shipping) that I paid for it. If I could I would stare at it all day long. I'm that in love.

Part of me hopes I can get a calendar like this every year. Let's make it happen, Prismatic Print Shop!
p.s. What's yo sign?! ♌︎ I'm a Leo. Is that surprising?

"Lovers are patient and know that the moon needs time to become full." — Rumi

Two weeks spent exploring the beautiful state of California. Sometimes it's good to be reminded of all of the incredible places to see outside of the city. Nature is just so extraordinary and sometimes I can't wrap my head around the beauty of absolutely everything. It's nice feeling a little more grounded.

These are just a few of my favorite shots. You can find some more here.

home

I've been away for what seems like forever (again). I'm back though, I swear. We moved into our new place almost exactly a month ago and have been super busy furnishing this once empty space, into a super badass lil apartment. I thought I'd pop in some photos so to show what we've done in the past month. I'm in love and can not wait to see what it looks like once everything is in place and all the artwork is up. We're so so lucky because we have the most amazing windows and therefore amazing light. Perfect for shooting photos, yeah? Oh yeah. We've also got a balcony that looks out on to the water / the Bay Bridge. It's so surreal walking out there at dusk, seeing the city, the sunset, e v e r y thing. Half the time I feel like pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. Still Always grateful.

I'm also currently working on an autumn playlist, similar to my summer one (yay)! <3

ch-ch-changes

New logo. New nonsense. *gasp*

I haven't been around for a while. Almost a month, which seems so crazy, really. Like anything else in this world though there are totally some legit excuses reasons as to why.

First and most important is: this stopped feeling like my space. I started this blog to write about what I like, what I enjoy, what I do. I started this blog to make relationships. Somewhere down the road it turned into a full on beauty blog which is great, but there really is so much more to my life than makeup. I started buying all of the things I wanted when I wanted them. There was less of wait, less of a chase, and it made them a lot less fun. I want to genuinely freak out over how much I love a brand new mascara again. Where the hell has the thrill gone?

Secondly, I got bored. I looked at my blog and it was like : product, product, product. There are bloggers and vloggers who are really good at this stuff. They write consistently about products and make it interesting and I drool and it just, it makes sense. I, personally, cannot keep doing the same thing all the time. I bore myself and get stuck in ruts and get frustrated. I need to flail around and let this blog just be whatever the hell it wants. Fashion. Beauty. Food. Lifestyle. Whatever whatever. Why set limits? What good comes from limits? (the answer is nothing, in case you were wondering)

I love taking photos. I love overdressing in San Francisco because people think (and look at me like) I am insane. I have a soft spot for succulents and I'm moving in 4 days. I can't wait to start doing yoga religiously again. I can't wait to not have a 100ºf fever because the delirium, while slightly hilarious, is actually doing my head in. Sometimes I listen to the Sims Buy Mode 1 song just for funsies. I am consistently compared to April Ludgate by people I know and some that I don't. I don't even know what this all says about me but what I do know that this blog doesn't encompass even half of this. And I want it to. So now, it's going to.

I will still be beauty blogging, just less than I was before, and it'll be mixed in with a ton of other things.  I haven't stopped feeling thankful for everyone who has ever even read my blog in passing. Always grateful. Always. So without further ado — this blog has now been liberated and is free to be whatever the hell it wants.

Where I've Been: July/August

Mini hiatus = over.

I'm a blogger. I love this little space of mine. I put everything I've got into it, I really do. BUT, I think it's healthy to get away. When I'm spending time with those I love I think it's good to leave the internet for a bit. Breathing space is nice — especially because it's so easy to get up in the blogging world. Now that I'm back I thought it'd be fun to explain where I've been...

· I turned 24 and spent the weekend with some of the most amazing people I know
· New addition to my ever-growing Catbird stack: Teensy Evil Eye ring c/o my love
· Got a sweet new haircut
· I flew to Jersey to spend some time with my family — here until Aug 21! Yay!
· Celebrated my Grandpa's 75th birthday... with about five courses of real New Jersey Italian goodness.
· Bought my sister her first few bits of real makeup (and gave her a makeover)

I'm happy to be blogging again after this little break and plus: tomorrow I'm announcing the winner of my giveaway. So exciting.

1st Official Blog Birthday

Exactly one year ago today I made the decision to start blogging again, but this time, full-time. I don't mean as a full-time job, per se, but more as I'd blog as much as possible and hopefully daily. When I started my blog in 2011, I focused on writing about fashion and the collections that I was loving. It didn't really take off and I pretty much quit once I started working for Everlane. Then a year later I started getting into makeup and skincare (thanks Nina) and something just clicked. This time around, I got noticed. Slowly and surely my blog got bigger and yesterday I hit 1000 Bloglovin' followers (best 1 year present ever?!).

A lot of things have happened to me in this past year:

· I dropped out of college officially to pursue my greatest passion: photography.
· I made some incredible friendships both here in the US and overseas ()
· I was featured in Lucky Magazine's 14 San Francisco Style Bloggers to Bookmark Right Now
· I bought the camera of my dreams (and am saving up for the lens of my dreams)
· I've gotten quite a few amazing photography gigs with the likes of Intermix and True&Co
· I've become so much more comfortable in my skin / I've learned so much about myself

And with that, a lot of thanks goes to every single person who reads my blog. Although this is a very personal blog to me, so much of this would not have happened without you guys.

I'm continually thankful for every comment, email, tweet, compliment that I receive. I promised myself in the beginning that I'd always stay true to myself within this little online space and so far, so good. This is more than just a blog to me. It's the one place I have full creative freedom. The one place that I can write to my hearts content about my life and everything that goes along with it, and for that, I am so grateful. To know that people care enough to read this all is still so crazy, but gah, thank you guys so much for making this past year absolutely incredible for me.

To show my thanks, I've put together a giveaway. I've been thinking about what to do for quite a while now and this is what I've come up with. I wanted to give away something(s) that actually had a bit of meaning — so what I've chosen to do is giveaway a handful of my all time favorite products ever. A little makeup kit, dauphine style. Because I know some people prefer certain makeup items over others, the winner will be able to pick between a soft-focus face powder or créme-liquid highlighter + a dusty rose powder blush or a peachy pink cream blush (+ you get the other things too). Here is everything I've chosen(!!!):

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone or Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light
NARS Douceur blush or Jouer Bare Tint
♡ MAC Era + Patina eyeshadows
MAC Patisserie Lipstick
Oribe Texturizing Spray (travel size)
♡ LUSH Silky Underwear Dusting Powder
+ a few little cute extras as a surprise!

The links above will take you to my reviews, for those that don't have links, I'll be sure to review them within the next month :3 even though I haven't reviewed some of them, I promise you they are in my all time top 10 favorite products!

a Rafflecopter giveaway The reason this giveaway is until the end of July is because that will give me enough time to save up for everything I'm giving away, yay! This giveaway is international, of course, so anyone can enter! Also, let me know if you'd like me to do a face of the day post using these products.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am about this. I really do believe in giving back to those that have been here for me in the past year. So here's to another year of photos, makeup, and happiness. Good luck!

--

Due to unforseen life things — this giveaway is now going to be ending in September. I'm going to run this until the end of July (as I stated earlier), but the winner won't be receiving anything until Sept! Unfortunately life has it's silly way of making other things priority, so I hope you guys can understand. <3

And we're back...

hashtagilovemyjob / there is a bandaid on my knee / shitty iPhone photo

As some of you may know, in addition to blogging, I'm a freelance photographer. If I could spend the rest of my life taking photos of/for people and brands, I would (and I will). It's the one thing in life that makes sense to me and the one thing I'm incredibly passionate about.

A few weeks back when I broke my Canon 400D, I was literally heartbroken. I'd used that baby basically every day for the past two years and as ridiculously silly as it may sound to some, it felt like a part of me was gone. After an eBay fiasco and much too long of a wait I am now in possession of my dream camera: a Canon 5D. I opted for the classic because that's just the kind of girl I am.

In the time I've been "gone" I've been working on some really exciting stuff. This post is essentially a big hooray because I'll be back to blogging daily starting this weekend. I absolutely can not wait to share all the things I've been doing/buying/using!

5.30.2013

a little update ~

It feels so weird to not blog for almost two weeks now. My camera should hopefully arrive today or tomorrow (assuming this eBay seller hasn't totally screwed me over) so I should be back in no time. I'm missing it a lot, way more than I thought I would to be honest. It's a good feeling though. Just totally realizing that it's something you're really passionate about and really love doing. I pretty much feel like a piece of me is missing without my camera. Silly?

SO much going on in the next two weeks  — lots of fun posts to shoot and write, but also some not so fun things like knee surgery tomorrow /flail. Life is totally crazy sometimes. I literally just can not wait to be back into a regular posting schedule.

What has everyone been up to?!

Mental Illness Stigma (and other nonsense)

I wrote this on my tumblr last night. I got some really great responses, so decided to post here as well · photo via happydyingsun

Just because I’m a blogger, just because I choose to share parts of my life with the internet, just because I’m open about my experiences and share my knowledge of mental illness with others, does not mean it’s not genuine. I’m continually told “not to talk about it publicly”, as if I’m supposed to hide something that is such a huge part of who (and why) I am. Why would I do that?

“People with anxiety would never put themselves out there” — you see, that’s where you’re wrong. Not everyone’s anxiety is the same. Just because I post pictures of myself wearing makeup on the internet doesn’t mean that some days I don’t struggle to leave my bed, let alone the house.

“But you have friends and you’re attractive” — what does that even have to do with having a mental illness or disorder? Yes, having friends and taking care of my appearance certainly helps me when I’m feeling down, but it most definitely doesn’t prevent/fix anything.

“Stop worrying so much” — see, that’s the thing. It’s not something you can turn off. You can be totally okay one minute, just busying yourself, washing dishes and BAM. Flashbacks of trauma. Uneasiness. Panic sets. You can breathe it out, but it doesn’t just suddenly disappear. So many think that it’s something you can just stop, but it’s not. If it were, don’t you think I would?

“Just suck it up and get over yourself. Pop a Xanax and shut up.” — would you tell someone with asthma or another sickness/disorder to suck it up? Having a mental illness or disorder is no different. This is what so many fail to understand. It’s not something that we can suddenly just fix, and it’s certainly not something someone chooses to have. Pop a Xanax? As if I haven’t heard that before. Thank you for belittling what I have to something that can be so quickly cured with a small pill! So quick to judge and tell people what to do, yet completely uneducated about the subject.

I write about my experiences with anxiety, panic disorder, and PTSD because it has helped and continues to help people understand. It also helps me. I think the worst part of it all is the ridiculous hate I seem to get because I choose to talk publicly about something that deeply affects my daily life. I will continue to write and share — if you don’t want to hear/read, then don’t.

I’m not ashamed.

everyday

morning flowers

As you guys might already know, I'm not all cupcakes and lipstick all the time and when it comes to what I do, photography is my #1. As a part of wanting to take on photography more full-time, I'm starting an ever so cliché 365 project. If you're not familiar, it's basically where you take a photo each day and document them somewhere — be it Flickr or a tumblr, or whatever. I'll be putting my photos here (I have an actual domain but it's still configuring), but you can also check them out here if you'd like. I'm pretty excited to see how this goes.

Does anyone else have any personal projects (outside of beauty and blogging) that they're working on?

Rings by Catbird

I'm quite picky about jewelry and I don't wear much of it — but I do have a slight major inclination towards delicate and dainty things. Maybe it's because I just find them a bit more romantic... or because I have small wrists/hands. Who knows. When it comes to brands I'm always lusting over, Catbird comes first. Always.

I've been talking about how much I've wanted these for a while but just couldn't bring myself to get them for whatever reason. But! Richard surprised me with them at dinner last night and yes, I cried.  I really couldn't have asked for anything better. They're just perfect and such a cute gift for anyone! They're very thin and small but are such great quality; I'm not at all worried about them breaking somehow or anything like that. My only qualm is their sizing — I'm in between a half and whole size and ordered a size up, when we should have gotten a size down. Luckily their exchange/return policy is great!!

Anyway, if you're in the market for some new jewelry; be it alphabet or heart rings, knuckle rings (waaaant), bracelets, or even non-traditional (but still ridiculously beautiful) engagement rings, etc. you should totally consider Catbird. Such a great company doing really really awesome things.

What do you guys think? Do you adore Catbird as much as I do?
P.S. Here's what they look like on/stacked!

Muse Diary / 2013 Resolutions

Muse Diary · $28.95

I've always been one of those people who is slightly obsessed with notebooks, especially planners. For quite a long time I wanted to do events and wedding planning and my love for all things organized and handwritten just skyrocketed.  I saw this planner on MochiThings and immediately fell in love. Photos of Paris (and stickers!!!!!!), mood charts (also with stickers!!!) and lots of room to plan and write? So into it. It's the perfect planner for me and I'm already filling it with blog ideas and lists, yay! Some other things I want to keep track of are my "resolutions" for this year.

- Travel more
Both Richard and I love traveling and while we haven't done much of it (other than to see our families) we really want to take a trip somewhere awesome this year. Japan is at the top of our list!

- Blog more
This is an easy one for me, especially at the moment but I really want to try to stay on top of things and keep enjoying what I'm doing. Though working leaves me with less time than desired to spend on blogging, I really can't complain!

- Be a little more fearless
I tend to stick to the same colors when it comes to clothing (and probably makeup as well). I really want to branch out and try some new things that I might not normally try!

- Read one book a month
I love reading. Like, really love it. That said I haven't exactly done as much as I've wanted to in the past year — I've already got a list of books to read but I'm always on the lookout for more so if you've read anything really great, let me know.

Though those are just a few of my resolutions, they're probably the most important. Some others I have are making sure to take my supplements daily, commission a new logo for my blog, start a YT channel, etc. I'm not sure about that last one but, we'll see! Anyway, what does everyone else have on their resolution list? Who else has bought a cute 2013 planner?! I'd love to see 'em!

Public Service Announcement

Not really a PSA, but...

I'm currently back in New Jersey for the Thanksgiving holiday and I'm super excited to be here for a while (plus that means we'll be in England in less than a month, eeeeeep). That said, be prepared for regular blogging to happen, for the most part!

Anyway I'm writing this post to say: I'm going to be selling some of my prints on Society6! If you didn't know, aside from blogging, photography is what I'm most passionate about. You can see a bunch of my photos here and see the prints and such that I'm selling here. I'm currently uploading a ton of stuff so stay tuned! Even if you don't buy anything I'd really love for you to just check out my stuff and tell me what you think! Also if you see anything on Flickr that you'd like to see in print form, let me know <3

...and now back to our scheduled programming...

A few of my favorite things

So I thought I'd do a little something different and show you guys where I keep all my makeup. It's not really storage or anything of that sort — I usually keep out what I use most and throw the rest in my left over Glossybox which is still gives me pretty easy access. This is only really my makeup collection; my hair products, accessories, and tools are a-whole-nother issue I need to tackle one of these days!

I've got a few more Instax photos to put on the wall but I seem to have lost them in the move a few months back, so hopefully I'll be able to find 'em and stick them up soon. The two cards are from Richard and his sister and were for my 23rd birthday this past July. They're just so cute I love having them out. There are a few products here that I haven't reviewed yet, but will be soon! I've fallen (madly) in love with YSL Le Teint Touché Éclat and Marc Jacobs Daisy as of late; I can't stop wearing them! Anywho, let me know what you think of my little setup as I'm loving it right now :)

That little moleskine in the pictures is probably one of my most prized possessions — it was a little gift from Richard when we first started dating and I still love it as much as I did when I got it. Also present is my 'lil pink Nintendo DS loaded up with Harvest Moon Cute.  P.S. shooting/writing this post has put me in a Francoise Hardy/French music mood - go listen.
