Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light
I spotted it this little baby a few weeks back in our only free-standing Northern California Space NK and as the story goes: I came, I swatched, I lusted. Though because I'm not usually a face powder type of gal, I left empty handed and sat on the idea of purchasing it for a whole three days. Self-control? What is that?
Each Ambient Lighting Powder is supposed to achieve something different; Radiant Light for a summer glow, Diffused light to counteract redness and add clarity, etc. After doing my research on each of the different "shades" that are offered, I popped into Sephora (I wish Space NK was closer) and immediately went looking for Dim Light.
Since then I've been using it daily and honestly never want to go a day without it. I apply the powder all over my face with a big fluffy Sephora blush brush — it leaves me with a super gorgeous soft-focus finish and sets my foundation. Although it has a teensy bit of shimmer, it is incredibly finely milled, meaning it's very delicate and doesn't leave you looking super luminized. While everyone else (except me) thinks the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer blurs imperfections, this stuff actually does, and well.
It only takes one really great product for me to get interested in a brand (Hourglass, I'm coming for you). This is probably the only face powder I've ever bought and honestly genuinely loved and because of that I'm definitely going to be checking out the rest of the collection (and maybe purchasing a few others as well). This is a pretty good little "chart"explaining each of the shades and what they try to accomplish.
For the record, yes. This is holy grail.
Here is a silly hand swatch if you'd like to get a feel of what it looks like on the skin. I'm not a swatch photo fan so that's why I didn't include one. </picky>

I have the ambient light one and I agree these are just amazing. Definitely my setting powder of choice now. It has the perfect amount of shimmer without making you look shimmery at all. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly why I love it. Glad you're loving it too! xx
DeleteLove the idea of these powders ! Also hourglass does amazing matte lip colours !

When I use up some other products, I really want to try this!
ReplyDeleteHMMM I think you've convinced me. I'm not a powder person either, but if you like this, i'm sure i will... AND it is cheaper than i thought it was, so that is cool too haha. ALSO - HOURGLASS LIP OIL! you would like it. i haven't used it enough yet but still lol
ReplyDeleteOh god you need to try this — you can try mine if you want next time we're together. Also YES I totally forgot about that oil!!!!!! Ahhh x
DeleteThis is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI've wanted one of these since they came out, but I don't think they'll work for skin as oily as mine. : ( I really, really wanted the Mood Light and Etheral Light ones. Hourglass is a great brand btw! Pricey but great packaging and products.

You should totally check them out and ask a makeup artist just to see what they think about use with this with oily skin. I loooove the packaging but yeah, the price is a bit steep! That said, I do see this lasting quite a bit!
DeleteGorgeous! I recently bought Diffused Light and had mixed feelings about it at first. Now, I love it!

I've honestly heard reallllllly mixed feelings about these powders so I'm glad to hear that at least it went down well for you!! They seem lovely, and I love hourglass (though not their prices), so I've thought about trying one but have too many face powders at the moment as it is. Also, if you want an hourglass staple for your routine you should really try their veil mineral primer; I just did a review on it on my blog and it really is one of the most gorgeous things you'll ever get your hands on!

Yeah, that's why I love blogs though. Not everything works for everyone and it's nice to see how people get on with things. I try not to get caught up in the hype so I can form my own opinion on things!
DeleteI've tried samples of that primer and while it's incredibly nice, primer isn't a must have for me (especially when it's that expensive)! x
There's been so much talk around Hourglass products recently, especially this one!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that each shade served a different function though so that's good to know! I should look into that before purchasing one.
xx

Yeah! I think some people didn't know that about the powders :) they're all really lovely so I hope you find one you love! xo
DeleteGasp. I'm saving up for this *exact* product! It really is perfection in a compact.

YES. (that is all I have to say about that) x
Deletei bought dim light a few weeks ago and i'm in love with it! also, sephora lists the product at $45 - not $35 :P
ReplyDeleteAh thanks for pointing out my mistake, fixed now <3
DeleteWaw honestly, this product looks gorgeous! I would love to try it out but sadly, they don't sell it here in Belgium *very sad face*
ReplyDeleteBummer! Maybe we could one day do a swap! xx
DeleteI have mixed feelings about these powders. On one hand, everyone raves about them (and if even you like them... it certainly means they're great!), but on the other hand, now that I've read very positive reviews, if I buy one of them, I'll be expecting a miracle to happen! I guess the best option is to go to Space NK and try them before I commit ;-)
ReplyDeleteEven when things are hyped up I try to go in with no expectations (keyword: try, lol). The only reason I do this is because I have been let down by a lot of products that everyone else seems to love! Either way if you try these I hope you love them as much as I do! xx
Deletethese powders all look so amazing & are probably the only new makeup product i've been excited about in a while. i really want to try diffused & ambient light. it's just a shame none of the space nk stores around here stock hourglass products! need to try their mineral veil primer too xx
ReplyDeleteRight! I really want to try Diffused especially because I do get a bit of redness on my cheeks! Everyone says that primer is amazing but I just can't justify the price for the size, ehhhh! x
DeleteI could tell you about self-control if only I knew what it was myself. The joys of blogging and reading blogs, right?!
ReplyDeleteI saw your blog post on Laura Mercier Radiance Primer literally a couple of hours after I bought it and thought, "Ohh, no, what if I don't like it now?!", but so far, so good for me. I still need to use it a bit more before I can form a proper opinion on it. These Hourglass powders look absolutely stunning though. I'll probably eventually cave in, but for now, I'm really happy with my Guerlain Meteorites, which I'm sure are very similar. The Ethereal and Luminous Glow powders sound so intriguing. Who knew a product could give you a moonlit or candlelit glow?!
Haha, I'm not a fan of swatch photos either. They just aren't as pretty. :p

That's what I love about makeup though — it's not "one size fits all" so to speak and so it's really interesting to see what works and what doesn't. I'm happy you're liking the primer so far though :) I've heard such great things about those Meteorites but haven't tried them myself!
DeleteAlso glad you're not the only one who doesn't like swatch photos; it's why I tend to try to take pictures of most things on my face! x
It sounds incredible! I'm not even the slightest bit interested in powder (I just use a cheap Rimmel one) but I think I'll have to check this out. Just the shade chart is making me swoon at how glowy they look xx
ReplyDeleteI recently stumbled across your blog, and I must say - I'm completely in love. With everything about it. Simple, pretty perfection. I love your photography as well. You inspire me! Just thought you should know. :)
ReplyDeleteHey! Id just like to say I am seriously in love with your blog and you seem like such an amazing person!I actually mentioned you as my favourite blogger in my May favourites as I like your blog so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the awesome blog!

I'm so glad you're back to blogging. :) Thanks for posting about this. I've heard of the Ambient powders but didn't really understand the hype around them. Now, I want one!
